Topic: Coming Out of the Closet in Middle School

Mary is a school counselor and educator at a middle school in Murrieta, California.

Mary has recently been faced with offering support and a safe haven to a 13-year-old student, and her family, who has come out to her as a Lesbian.

As a heterosexual dealing with a conservative and prejudiced school and community, Mary has stayed compassionate, conscious and dedicated in her ability to make this experience for her student, and the school, a positive and affirming one.
